2020 September – Port of Rauma – Efficient Flow projectThe Efficient Flow project funded from the Central Baltic Programme (EU) has reached its final stage. The objectives of the project, which has taken almost three years, included improved and swifter exchange of information between the different operators in the port, savings in time in port operations, shorter waiting times, more efficient use of resources, and savings in the consumption of ships’ fuel. |

2020 September – Riviera Maritime – Vessel traffic management enhanced through sensor and radio investmentBulgaria has expanded the geographical spread of its vessel traffic management information system (VTMIS), improved its telecommunication infrastructure and deployed more e-navigation technology. […] During the implementation phase of the project, workstations compliant with Wärtsilä’s sea traffic management concept were installed. This platform enables online route exchange between vessels and the shore. “A ship travelling from Australia to Varna, for example, can send its voyage plan to the port and the port will see when this vessel will arrive and see its route on a map, in order to predict its estimated time of arrival,” Mr Leontiev explains. “This port can then share this route with other ports.” |

2020 September – Baltic Black Sea Economic Forum – SAMK is flagship in technology and marine researchRecent example is launch of project results on EfficientFlow – project “Efficient flow of goods and passengers between Finland and Sweden”. Usually different port actors have called between each other with a phone, f.e. seven persons from different organization just on one port call. EfficientFlow has studied and implemented a digitalization a mobile phone application for Port of Rauma. The mobile app was officially launched in August 2020. Seventy users are currently sharing and getting real-time timetables for port calls. Users are representing many aspects of the port call: terminals, tugs, pilots, agents, port authority, mooring personnel, captains and even the local shipbuilding company. This new app saves time, gathers all needed information into one place and also contribute to less environmental impact with better customized and planned arrivals and departures of ships in the port. |

2020 August – Riviera Maritime – Navigating safer means working smarter… This is where just-in-time voyage plans and port calls become important. Developing this technology along with implementing sea traffic management (STM) worldwide will bring dividends to shipping companies, port operators, authorities and harbour service providers. It will help IMO reach its long-term goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reduce shipping delays. Data sharing between ships, vessel traffic services and ports needs to be driven by IMO, implemented by member states and actively adopted by shipping companies. Projects such as STM Balt Safe could be expanded geographically and by ship type to gain the maximum benefits. |

2020 July – Riviera – STM demonstrates the future for e-navigationBenefits include optimised route planning, reduced operating expenditure and emissions, while there is less administration on ships and more control over fleet performance from shore. Another important benefit is improved safety, especially in densely navigated areas where poor communications can cause accidents. These can have extreme impacts on seafarer life, the environment and owners’ assets and cargo. Which is why measures to improve navigation safety through better data exchange are essential to reduce accidents. |
